The Oklahoma City Thunder have been considered one of the most strategically managed teams in the NBA for years. It is all the more remarkable that the reigning champion and current league leader is now appearing in concrete rumors for the first time before the trade deadline, with a view to Isaiah Hartenstein of all people.
NBA insider Brian Windhorst brought it up on the podcast The Hoop Collective An exciting name came into play: Isaiah Hartenstein. Accordingly, the name of the German big man is circulating in conversations around Oklahoma City, even if it is only loose trade chatter so far.
At first glance this seems surprising. The Thunder not only have the best record in the league, but also a deep, well-coordinated squad. However, the background to the considerations lies less in sporting dissatisfaction and more in long-term squad and salary planning. Hartenstein signed a three-year, $87 million contract in the summer of 2024, with a team option of around $29 million for the coming season.
