The Somerset County Prosecutor in New Jersey announced on the 28th that Patrick J. Lin, a 37-year-old Chinese man from Hillsborough, was suspected of beating his elderly parents to death with a baseball bat at a home on Cornell Trail on September 25 last year. Prosecutors have filed multiple felony charges against the suspect. The deceased were his 69-year-old father David Lin and his mother Jean Lin of the same age.
Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said that the police arrived at the scene after receiving a request for a security inspection in the afternoon of the day of the incident and tried to contact the residents of the house for nearly two hours. It was not until 6:24 that night that the police entered the house.
After police entered the house, they encountered Patrick Lin, who was armed. Two Hillsborough police officers then opened fireshootingZhonglin. Lin was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries were once critical and he is currently in stable condition.
The police later found Lin’s parents lying face down in two bedrooms on the second floor of the residence with no signs of life. The forensic examination pointed out that both victims died of blunt force blows to the head, and the cause of death was determined to be homicide.
During the investigation, the police found a notebook in Yu Lin’s room, which allegedly contained a creepy “wish list”. The second item read “to kill someone and get away with it”, which showed evidence of at least premeditation or thoughts.

Based on the evidence, police speculated that Lin had a plan to flee the scene after killing his parents. Investigators found that he had ordered Meals Ready to Eat and brought knives, and had withdrawn cash from the bank, indicating that he might have tried to escape.
The police found multiple baseball bats in Lin’s bedroom, one of which tested positive for blood. There were also traces of blood spatter on the scene, indicating that the violent attack was violent and well-prepared.
At present, prosecutors and police have not released a more complete explanation of psychological motivation, mental state or family background, nor have they disclosed whether mental health or other stress factors were involved. Officials are calling this an isolated incident and the case does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.
Prosecutors said Patrick Lam has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree attempted murder, and two third-degree weapons-related charges.
