The personnel shortage in Freiburg’s central defense recently brought Bruno Ogbus unexpectedly into the starting line-up – and the 20-year-old knew how to impress. In the 2-0 defeat against RB Leipzig, he defended together with Anthony Jung for the first time and received a lot of support for it.
After the game, coach Julian Schuster gave “a big compliment” to both central defenders. Support also came from the team: Maximilian Eggestein emphasized that it was “certainly not Bruno’s fault,” while Jung described the performance of his young man next to him as “very calm, very solid, very good” – and even stated that he “wouldn’t mind if he continued to play alongside me.”
Loan issue remains open
Regardless of the positive impressions, a loan from Ogbus is still not ruled out. With the foreseeable return of Ginter and Rosenfelder, the competition could intensify. Loud Sky 1. FC Kaiserslautern is still considered the most promising candidate. Karlsruher SC, FC Luzern and VfL Bochum were or are also considered interested parties.
