Ofner: New Coach & Renewed Enthusiasm in Tennis

Sebastian Ofner attacks again in 2026.

After separating from his long-time coach Stefan Rettl, Ofner is in Australia’s capital Canberra, where he begins his season at the Challenger tournament on Monday.

There he will meet former world number 23 Dusan Lajovic from Serbia early on Monday morning.

In training since November

The Styrian explained his preparation to the “Kleine Zeitung”: “I’m really happy. I had to struggle with a few things. I’ve been training since mid-November, but the scope has only increased.”

Ofner had to end the season earlier last year because he was plagued by pain in his right wrist and in the two heels that were operated on in 2024.

At the start of the season, Ofner initially works with Philip Bachmaier. The Styrian says about him: “He is a trainer and I have known him for a very long time. It fits well, he will certainly accompany me more often now and then I will see that I find someone who can accompany me on a longer basis.”

After his appearance in Canberra, he goes straight on to qualifying for the Australian Open.
