In fact, with 1.3 seconds left, Tyrese Maxey had placed the ball on the backboard before Kevin Durant came to block his shot: according to the rules it should have been a valid basket, but the referees considered the block to be regular. Since there was no whistle, the Sixers bench could not call the challenge to force the officials to review the call. The game then continued with a two-ball called for a whistle that inadvertently went off the line and in overtime the Sixers prevailed 128-122
