Two weeks ago, the match between the Wolves and the Cavaliers was marked by the Minneapolis franchise’s tribute to Renee Gooda woman killed while driving her vehicle by an ICE agent.
Unfortunately, the situation has not really calmed down since and the NBA has just postponed the meeting between the Wolves and the Warriorsscheduled for this evening, following the death of a man killed by federal agents.
According to the US Department of Security, the man in question was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and allegedly “violently resisted” before an agent “fearing for his life” don’t open fire. A version vigorously contested by Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota, while videos of the scene seem to show that the deceased man did indeed have a weapon in his belt, but that he never grabbed it, and that he would even have been disarmed several seconds before being killed…
Faced with the risk of excesses, the NBA indicates in any case to make “the safety and security of the Minneapolis community” his priority, and therefore does not want to interfere with a meeting which brings together thousands of people in the city center. If calm returns, the match could take place tomorrow, still at 11:30 p.m.
However, it is not certain that the situation will calm down in twenty-four hours, after this new death but also the anger caused by the arrest of a five-year-old child, still in Minneapolis, whom ICE agents are accused of having used as “bait” to get his loved ones out of their home, and thus arrest them.
