#11 Nagi Sato

Nagi Sato

Nagi Sato is a point guard who represents the high school basketball world.

For three years in junior high school, he was a member of the Yokohama Bee Corsairs youth team (U13/U14/U15). In his third year of junior high school, he participated in the “Jr. Winter Cup 2022-23” as a member of the Yokohama Bee Corsairs U15. He has steadily built up his career while experiencing national tournaments, including leading his team to second place.

Possessing both high scoring ability and excellent game control ability, he has been a mainstay at Higashiyama High School, a powerful school, since his first year. We continue to have a solid presence on the nation’s top level stage.

At the “SoftBank Winter Cup 2025” held in December last year, he recorded a double-double with double-digit points and double-digit assists in 4 of the 6 games he played. He attracted attention as one of the best scorers of his generation, with an average score of 20.3 points, the highest in the tournament, and a total of 56 assists, which ranks third in the tournament’s history. He led the team to second place and was also selected as one of the top five in the tournament.

His past achievements and future potential have been highly evaluated, and he has been selected as a recipient of the 19th Slam Dunk Scholarship. I am planning to move to the United States in the summer of 2026.

Sato will be the seventh youth player to join the top team from the youth team, following Kai King, Akira Jacobs (2021-22 season member), Hayato Hiraoka (2022-23 season member), Riki Tanaka (2023-24 season member), Yo Ryugai, and Yukisa Ebara.

Comment from Nagi Sato

I am Nagi Sato, a third-year student at Higashiyama High School, who will be joining the Yokohama B-Corsairs as a specially designated player.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone involved with the Yokohama B-Corsairs for giving me this opportunity, and everyone involved with Higashiyama High School, including Mr. Osawa, who supported this decision.

I am very happy to be able to play in the city where I was born and raised, and at the club where I was raised.

We will do our best to contribute to the team’s victory, so please come to our home games!

Thank you for your support.

Comments from Eisuke Shirai, Representative Director and General Manager

We are pleased to announce that we will welcome Nagi Sato, a third-year student at Higashiyama High School, as a specially designated athlete.

Sato is a former member of the Yokohama B-Corsairs youth team (registered in U13/U14/U15), and when he was a U15 player, he led the team to second place in the “Jr. Winter Cup 2022-23” and third place in the “B.LEAGUE U15 CHAMPIONSHIP 2023,” leaving a big impact.

At Higashiyama High School, where he attends, he plays the role of a control tower supporting the team with reliable game making, and has steadily grown. At the end of last year, at the SoftBank Winter Cup 2025, in addition to playing a stable game, he demonstrated high scoring ability and passing ability, making a major contribution to winning the runner-up spot.

He has excellent situational judgment to control games as a playmaker, and the physical strength he has worked on over the past year has improved his contact strength and defensive strength.

From this summer, he plans to go to the United States as a Slam Dunk scholarship student and move his career to the United States, but by experiencing the B.LEAGUE stage as a specially designated player, he is expected to make further strides as one of the club’s representative youth players.

Comments from Taku Shirasawa Academy Director and Assistant General Manager

I am very happy that Nagi Sato, who I played with in the Yokohama B-Corsairs youth team, has returned to the first team as a specially designated player.

Many scenes come to mind, such as the fierce battle in the “Jr. Winter Cup 2022-23” with the Yokohama B Corsairs U15, the way he strengthened his bonds with his teammates after losing in the final, and even his great success in the “B.LEAGUE U15 CHAMPIONSHIP 2023” after receiving advice from Yuki Kawamura.

At Higashiyama High School, where he went to high school, he participated in competitions from the first year, and while experiencing many successes and setbacks, I watched him grow with each competition.

Sato, who has always done his best under any circumstances and moved forward without stopping his growth, may still face challenges in terms of technique, physicality, and experience in the B.LEAGUE stage. However, I expect that they will absorb a lot during this period and grow even further.

About the special designated player system

A system aimed at providing an environment tailored to each individual’s ability for players who are 22 years old or younger as of March 31st of the relevant season. Even if the player is registered with the All Japan Collegiate Basketball Federation or the National High School Athletic Federation Basketball Club, he or she can participate in official B.LEAGUE games while still being registered with the team to which he/she belongs.
