Nacional’s Best Long-Range Goals: Cardona & More

The longest goal recorded in Colombian football is from an Atlético Nacional player, but he scored it when he played with Tolima: Luis Carlos Perea, from 80 meters in 1995.

The pijao team visited Bucaramanga and, at 19 minutes, “Coroncoro” rejected the ball into Guillermo Guarnieri’s goal, although the ball was not in any great danger.

The Argentine goalkeeper was moving back and, despite being inside the area, he did not try to take the ball with his hands, but rather to stop it with his feet, but he missed it and this goal would go down in history.

The goal that Nacional midfielder Edwin Cardona scored against Chicó goalkeeper, Dario Dennis, from 61.8 meters at 4-0 during the league premiere, recalled other great goals in green history.

Just like Cardona, there are other players in Purslane’s career who scored goals of that quality, such as Yerson Candelo, Dorlan Pabón, Mauricio Serna and one well remembered, Albeiro “El Palomo” Usuriaga (RIP) against Danubio in the 1989 Libertadores.

While the following are also remembered from other teams: Bonner Mosquera in 1993 with Millonarios al Huila; Yesid Trujillo of Unión al América in 1999; Erwin Carrillo, also with Unión al Cali in 2005; that same year, Ómar Pérez with Junior to Quindío, and Miguel Calero with Cali to Pereira.

Martín Morel, also with the sugar producers against América in 2010; Jarlan Barrera with Junior to the DIM in 2015; Roberto Ovelar to Nacional in 2017 with Millonarios; Johan Carbonero with Caldas to Patriotas in 2019; and Juan Pablo Vacca with Tigres al Huila in 2020.
