He’s actually causing quite a stir in Canada now. But Thomas Müller didn’t miss out on an appearance at the historic NBA game in Berlin.

Berlin – Thomas Müller is largely enjoying his off-season on German soil. The North American MLS is on hold during these months; regular league operations will not resume there until the end of February. But the FC Bayern legend can’t do without sport. On Thursday evening, Müller made an appearance at the NBA game in Berlin.

Together with his former national team colleague Mats Hummels, Müller watched the Orlando Magic’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies in Berlin’s Uber Arena. To the great delight of the fans, the camera team also captured Müller’s presence and threw the 2014 world champion onto the large video cube – Müller reacted in classic Müller style and dragged Hummels into the picture with a laugh.

Müller and Hummels were just part of an enormous number of celebrities who didn’t want to miss the historic duel. While Hummels exchanged ideas with his ex-coach Jürgen Klopp, among others, Müller chatted with German basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki, who of course also didn’t miss the spectacle.

In front of exactly 13,738 spectators, the Orlando Magic won the first NBA game of the regular season on German soil with 118:111. One of the decisive factors was certainly the home game character. Three German national players played for Orlando: Franz and Moritz Wagner as well as Tristan da Silva.

The Wagner brothers in particular were enthusiastically celebrated by the audience. Franz, who made his comeback after a short injury break, scored 18 points, while Moritz had seven. “I still can’t believe it, you are the best. Fans have come here not just from Berlin, but from all over Germany. We are incredibly grateful,” said the older of the Wagner brothers happily after the game. (mbo)
