Morocco sues Senegal: “Events had significant impact on the match”

The Moroccan Football Association is approaching both the African football federation CAF and world football association FIFA after Sunday evening’s tumultuous African Cup of Nations final in Rabat, in the hope of exacting punishment for Senegal.
In added time (at 0-0), Morocco was awarded a penalty after VAR intervention. A few minutes earlier, a possible Senegalese winning goal had been disallowed due to an error.
The decision led to enormous anger: some of the Senegalese players walked towards the dressing room. They only returned after the intervention of captain Sadio Mané himself.
The Moroccan association now states in a communiqué that it is initiating “legal proceedings” with the CAF and FIFA. She asks for a judgment on Senegal’s abandonment of the field and the incidents that followed.
According to the Moroccans, the events had “a significant impact on the normal course of the match and the performance of the players”.
Infantino: “These scenes are unacceptable”
FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who attended the final, also reacted sharply. He calls the behavior of the Senegalese players and staff “unacceptable”.
“Leaving the field in this way is not allowed. Teams must respect the decisions of the referees, on and off the field.”
“Otherwise the essence of football will be at risk,” said Infantino, who expects disciplinary action from CAF.
