Moffi Joins Porto After Nice Sick Leave & Fan Incidents

He found a way out. OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi, on sick leave since December 1 after being physically attacked by supporters of the Riviera club, has been loaned to FC Porto, the two parties announced on Friday.

Landing on the Côte d’Azur from Lorient on January 30, 2023, the Nigerian international (19 caps) remains, to this day, the most expensive transfer in the history of the Gym, which had paid 25 million euros, plus five bonuses, to attract his services.

The agreement between the two teams “includes a purchase option”, announced the Aiglons, which Porto reveals to be worth 8 million euros. Added to this is a maximum variable remuneration of 250,000 euros depending on the achievement of certain collective and individual objectives, indicates the Portuguese club, within which Moffi will find his former coach Francesco Farioli as well as his ex-teammate Pablo Rosario.

In the event of a definitive transfer, Nice will be entitled to 10% of the possible resale of the player.

Targeted by supporters

Returning from a lost match in Lorient (1-3), on November 30, the 26-year-old center forward was seen, after the match, all smiles in discussion with the Breton president, Loïc Féry. Captured by Ligue 1+ cameras, this exchange provoked the wrath of Nice’s followers. According to the prefecture, a group of around 400 hostile supporters then arrived at the OGC Nice training center, targeting Moffi and his partner Jérémie Boga, as well as sports director Florian Maurice.

The day after these incidents, the two players filed a complaint against X before being placed on sick leave. Since then, the Nice club has also filed a complaint against X.

During his three years on the Côte d’Azur, Moffi played 72 matches and scored 24 goals, including three this season in 15 matches. Last year, the Super Eagles played little due to a serious cruciate ligament injury in their left knee. His ability to bounce back within a prestigious club, in the race to be crowned champion of Portugal and to win the Europa League, will be closely scrutinized.
