Mina Hodzic’s Surprise DTB Performance

A bang at the qualification for the WTA tournament in Adelaide! The 23-year-old German Mina Hodzic completely surprisingly reached the final to take part in the main draw. Meanwhile, Laura Siegemund had to give up in a duel between two old stars.

Mina Hodzic has won three tournaments on the ITF tour so far in her career, her greatest success dates back to 2022, when the current number 468 in the world rankings won the W60 event in Biarritz, France. She last triumphed in Antalya (W15) in 2024.

However, Hodzic has not been able to convince in her few appearances on the WTA tour so far, so the start of the tennis year 2026 is a real exclamation mark.

In Adelaide, Hodzic was able to defeat the Russian Anna Blinkova in two sets 6:2 and 7:5 – a big surprise: The 27-year-old had already reached the third round at the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon, was already ranked 34th in the world rankings and won two WTA tournaments. The Russian is currently still number 61 in the world.

Siegemund has to give up against her former doubles partner

In order to secure a place in the main field, Hodzic has to clear another high hurdle: the Hungarian Dalma Galfi (number 94 in the world rankings).

Laura Siegemund, on the other hand, can no longer hope to start in the main field. The 37-year-old number 45 in the WTA ranking lost to her long-time doubles partner, the 41-year-old Russian Vera Zvonareva. Siegemund had to give up when the score was 5:7 and 0:4. Zvonareva, once number two in the tennis world, only returned to the tour at the end of 2025.

Should Hodzic manage another surprise and thus make it into the main field, she would be the only DTB representative in Adelaide.
