Schools in many areas of Milan will close on February 6, the day on which the Olympic torch will pass through the city, with numerous related events. This was decided by the committee for safety and public order, which met on Wednesday morning in the prefecture.
The torch route in Milan
The flame of the Winter Olympics will pass through many neighborhoods of Milan, touching particularly iconic places including (in order) City Life, Piazza Sant’Ambrogio, Piazza Vetra, Porta Venezia and Via Monte Napoleone, to end in the Duomo after crossing the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.
Where schools will be closed
The closure, also decided to reduce the impact on city traffic, will concern all educational institutions “within the city ring corresponding” to the external ring road and to be precise delimited by viale Cassala, viale Isonzo, viale Umbria, viale dei Mille, viale Abruzzi, viale Brianza, viale Lunigiana, viale Marche, viale Jenner, viale Monteceneri, viale Renato Serra, viale Murillo, viale Ranzoni, viale Bezzi and viale Misurata.
For the same reason, the committee invited public offices to consider encouraging remote work, in smart working.
Private planes, drones and red zones
It’s not the only Olympic-related decision. In fact, a ban on overflight of the airspace of Milan and, in Assago and Rho, near the Olympic ‘venues’ for private planes and drones has also been established, and the closure of Linate and Bresso to drones and private planes, from 4 to 7 February. Finally, five red zones have been established (three in Milan in the Sempione area, Olympic Village and Arena Santa Giulia, two in Rho and Assago) from 6 to 22 February.
