Statement von Mike Tomlin:
After careful consideration and intense reflection, I have made the decision to step down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This organization has been a huge part of my life for many years and it has been an absolute honor to lead this team. I am deeply grateful to Art Rooney II and the late Ambassador Rooney for their trust and support. I would also like to thank the players who gave everything every day, as well as the coaches and staff whose commitment and dedication made this journey so meaningful.
I also want to thank Steelers Nation. Your passion, loyalty and high expectations are emblematic of what makes this franchise so special. Coaching in Pittsburgh is different than coaching anywhere else, and I will always take great pride in having been a leader of this team.
Even as this chapter comes to an end, my respect and love for the Pittsburgh Steelers will never change. I look forward to what the future holds for this organization and I will be forever grateful for my time coaching in Pittsburgh.
Statement von Steelers President Art Rooney II:
During our meeting today, Coach Tomlin informed me that he has decided to step down as our Head Coach. Of course, I am extremely grateful to Mike for all of the hard work, dedication and success we have experienced together over the past 19 years. It is difficult for me to put into words the level of respect and appreciation I have for Coach Tomlin.
He led the franchise to our sixth Super Bowl title and reached the playoffs 13 times during his tenure, including eight AFC North division titles during his career. His record of never having experienced a losing season in 19 years will most likely never be repeated.
My family and I, as well as everyone associated with Steelers management, are forever grateful to Mike Tomlin for the passion and dedication he has given to Steelers football.
