Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, who was seriously injured when he hit his head on a rock while skiing in Meribel in the French Alps in December 2013, was kept in a medical coma for months after the accident. Since then, the legendary pilot has been under special supervision by his wife Corinna Schumacher and a medical team.
While his condition has been guarded with great secrecy since the accident, his family has continued to vigilantly defend Schumacher’s privacy. Schumacher, 57, is reportedly traveling between his homes in Switzerland and Majorca and continues his treatment.
No longer bedridden
According to the Daily Mail, Schumacher can now sit and thus be moved. Although he cannot walk, he is no longer bedridden and can be moved around in a wheelchair by nurses and medical staff.
It has also been reported that Schumacher does not suffer from “Locked-in Syndrome”. A source close to the family said, “You cannot be sure how much he understands because he cannot express himself. However, it is thought that he understands some of what is going on around him, but not everything.”
The family currently lives in their £50 million mansion in Gland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. In addition, they also spend time in the £30 million villa in the Las Brisas area of Majorca, which was purchased by Corinna Schumacher from Real Madrid President Florentino Perez in 2017.

Only a very small number of family members, close friends and staff have been able to see Schumacher since the accident. The importance the family attaches to privacy was brought to the agenda once again with an incident that took place in February 2025. At that time, three people who threatened the Schumacher family with blackmail were convicted. The suspects threatened to upload 900 personal photographs, approximately 600 videos and medical records stolen by one of the family’s private security guards to the “dark web” and demanded 15 million euros (about £12 million).
It was claimed that Schumacher attended the wedding of his daughter Gina in Majorca in 2024, but Daily Mail stated that this news did not reflect the truth and that confidentiality was maintained.
Michael Schumacher, who won the Formula 1 World Championship seven times, is the most successful pilot in history along with Lewis Hamilton. It is also stated that Ferrari’s former technical director Ross Brawn is one of the few people who have been able to see Schumacher since the accident.
