Kimbrel compiled a 56-48 record in 16 major league seasons, including stints with the San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles
The former National League Rookie of the Year ranks fourth among relievers with 1,282 career strikeouts, and is fifth with 440 saves.
The Mets also offered Austin Barnes a minor league contract and training camp invitation. The 36-year-old catcher hit .214 in 13 games with the Dodgers last season, before spending the rest of the season with the San Francisco Giants.
