MONTREAL – Basketball’s Lily Rose Chatila of Quebec City and hockey’s Igor Mburanumwe of Chambly, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Jan. 18, 2026.
Chatilaa 22-year-old junior majoring in anatomical science and cellular biology, scored 47 points and pulled down five rebounds as the McGill Martlets split a pair of games against Concordia last week, losing 80-73 at home (Jan. 15) and winning 62-51 on the road (Jan. 17). She tallied 33 of her points in Saturday’s win over the Stingers, marking just the sixth time in school history that a Martlets player has scored 33 or more points, and the first such effort in 18 years. The 5-foot-7 guard played an average 33.5 minutes over the two games and was also credited with six assists, three assists and one steal. A product of Dawson College, she shot 38.1 per cent from the floor (16/42), went 2-for-15 from three-point range with a solid 76.5 per cent success rate from the free-throw line (13-for-17).
One sided6-foot-5, 216-pound defenceman, scored two goals in two games as the McGill Redbirds split in a pair of games last week, defeating Queen’s 4-2 (Jan. 16) after a 5-4 overtime loss at UQTR (Jan. 14). The 22-year-old arts sophomore scored in each contest and upped his regular season totals to 3-4-7 in 20 games. He was recruited in 2024 out of the QMJHL, where he patrolled the blueline for Acadie-Bathurst (2023-24) and Victoriaville (2020-2023), winning the league’s President Cup championship in his rookie year.
