A morning of great emotion today at the Quirinale, where the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella met a representation of the Italian Paralympic athletes who, during 2025, won the gold medal at the World Championships and the Olympic Games for the deaf. A moment of strong institutional recognition for the commitment and results achieved by the Italians of the Paralympic movement, who continue to raise the name of Italy and enhance the role of sport as a tool for inclusion and growth.
“We have a deep sense of pride for what you have done – the words of the Head of State – aware of the sacrifices, sacrifices and effort that long preparation for a short competition requires. Behind every result, whether a medal arrives or not, there is an extraordinary human journey that represents a testimony of civil commitment for the whole country.
Allesina among the protagonists
Among the protagonists also Mattia Allesina, parakarate athlete, 2025 World champion in the “Intellectually Impaired” category of kata, and multiple European champion. Allesina, born in 1997, originally from Busto Arsizio, was the author of yet another extraordinary season which culminated with the world championship victory in an all-Italian final against teammate Patrick Buwalda. The ceremony, which took place in the splendid setting of the Quirinale Palace, was attended by representatives of the Italian Paralympic Committee with its president Marco Giunio De Sanctis, the delegates of the sports federations involved, together with the athletes and technicians who contributed to the international successes of the last year.
Fjlkam, the patest of President Morsiani
For Fijlkam, the president Giovanni Morsiani, the general secretary Massimiliano Benucci, the president of the karate sector Davide Benetello and the president of the parakarate commission Luca Nicosanti participated. “It was a great emotion – said President Morsiani – for us and for the Fijlkam athletes, to be received today at the Quirinale. President Mattarella’s words, profound and full of meaning, were able to best interpret the most authentic values of Paralympic sports. As a Federation, we are deeply proud of our boys: we will continue to strongly support them in their journey, certain that their dedication is a source of immense pride not only for us, but for the entire country.”
