Marseille vs Liverpool: Emerson Injury Blow

Bad news for the Marseillais. A few hours before the start of the Champions League match against Liverpool, counting for the 7th and penultimate day of the league phase, OM announced in a press release that their left back Emerson Palmieri had injured his left thigh and that he had to forfeit the evening meeting.

“Olympique de Marseille informs that Emerson Palmieri was injured during the last training session. Medical examinations carried out revealed an injury to the left thigh. The duration of his unavailability will be assessed based on clinical progress and will be monitored daily by the club’s medical staff,” the football club said in a text.

The player is therefore not part of the group called by Roberto De Zerbi for Wednesday’s match against Liverpool.

His absence is a hard blow for OM, because the Italian-Brazilian had an excellent first part of the season and he is one of the players most used by De Zerbi.

The Marseillais, who occupy provisional 16th place before the evening meeting, are still in the race to get their ticket for the play-offs.

In 2023, after West Ham’s success in the Europa Conference League, the Italian international defender became the first player to win all five competitions organized by UEFA.
