Marco Ramondino is no longer coach of SYNTAINICS MBC. After a series of seven defeats in a row in the easyCredit BBL, the German Cup winner and the 43-year-old Italian mutually agreed today to terminate the two-year contract, which runs until mid-2027. Until a new head coach is found, sports director Silvano Poropat will step in as interim coach.
Marco Ramondino approached the club management on Saturday evening after the 84:110 against newly promoted Trier, the biggest defeat of the season, with his request for a contract termination. The Italian drew the conclusions from the Wolves’ longest negative series in almost three years. This wish was granted. Marco Ramondino started his first engagement abroad at the beginning of the current season. After 24 competitive games in the easyCredit BBL, in the BBL Cup and in the ENBL with 13 wins and 11 defeats, this is now ending prematurely.
Silvano Poropat shaped an era in Weißenfels basketball as head coach. From 2011 to 2021, the Croatian worked intermittently as the Wolves’ head coach. As part of the restructuring of the management level, he returned as sports director in August 2025. Now the 54-year-old is stepping in as interim coach. Tickets for his comeback in the home game this Friday (8 p.m.) against Oldenburg are available here.
Voices:
Silvano Poropat, sports director and interim coach SYNTAINICS MBC: “I regret Marco’s decision, which also came as a surprise to me. He has always shown the utmost commitment and deserves great recognition for it. I will serve the SYNTAINICS MBC as a coach in the short term and will work with all my might to ensure that we get back on the road to success in the Bundesliga. However, a long-term return to the coaching bench is not my intention. I hope that we find the best possible solution for the SYNTAINICS MBC as soon as possible.”
Martin Geissler, managing partner of SYNTAINICS MBC: “We are grateful for the collaboration and have the greatest respect for Marco’s decision to put the well-being and future of the club first. It was a constructive collaboration, the end of which we as a club very much regret. We wish him only the best for the future.”
