Man Utd: Amorim Deal Collapses – Latest

Manchester United are pulling the ripcord and parting ways with their coach. After an astonishing press conference, the decision was already apparent.

Ruben Amorim is no longer manager of Manchester United. As the club officially announced, the Portuguese was released with immediate effect.

The decision came one day after Amorim’s astonishing appearance: he made a sweeping attack at a press conference in which, among other things, he criticized sports director Jason Wilcox.

Former United professional Darren Fletcher will act as interim coach. The previous U18 coach will look after the team in Wednesday’s game against Burnley.

United “reluctantly” part ways with Amorim

“With Manchester United currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League, the club’s management has reluctantly made the decision that it is time to make a change,” the club’s statement said. This gives “the team the best chance of achieving the highest possible placement in the Premier League.”

Amorim took up the job with the Red Devils in November 2024. He was on the sidelines in 63 competitive games. Last season he led the English record champions to the final of the Europa League – but there was a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. In the Premier League he only ended up in 15th place.

In his – as is now clear – last press conference, Amorim indicated that he demanded more decision-making authority in transfer issues. He is the “manager” of the club, not just the coach. The BBC pointed out that United had actually once introduced him as “head coach”.

There is also talk in other media reports that United bosses are said to have recommended a system change to Amorim.

Another Ferguson legacy less

The former top English club only spent over 250 million euros on transfers in the summer, but is now once again on the verge of a new beginning. Amorim is the tenth coach to attempt to fill the big shoes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

“Another one bites the dust,” was the headline Mirrorwhich in German means something like: “One less again”. The Sun Meanwhile, he immediately started looking for a successor – and, in addition to the Spaniard Xavi, also named the Austrian Oliver Glasner, who is currently under contract with Crystal Palace.
