Manchester City had the chance to overtake Arsenal at the top of the table.
They didn’t take it.
Successful newcomers Sunderland managed to close again against Pep Guardiola’s men and settle for a 0-0 result.
Manchester City started in usual fashion with stars like Erling Braut Haaland, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki in the attack.
But it wasn’t enough to see off newcomers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The red and white home team once again closed shop and settled for a 0–0 result.
Thus, a streak of eight consecutive winning competitive matches ended for Manchester City.
– It’s two points that City are throwing away, says expert Bojan Djordjic in Viaplay’s broadcast.
Gonzalez and Savinho injured
Thursday’s result means that league leaders Arsenal, through the victory against Aston Villa on Tuesday, go to the “half-time break” in the Premier League with a four-point gap to City.
As if that wasn’t enough, Pep Guardiola’s men picked up a couple of injuries during the match. Midfielder Nico Gonzalez was forced off at half-time. And shortly into the second half, it was also game over for winger Savinho.
