Manchester City have signed Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth for a sum in the high double-digit millions. The London-born Ghana national football player signed a five-and-a-half-year contract. According to media reports, Man City will pay a transfer fee of the equivalent of almost 72 million euros (62.5 million pounds) for the 26-year-old. Bournemouth said it was a record sum for the club, without giving any figures.
Last season, Semenyo played a key role in helping AFC Bournemouth stay in the league with eleven Premier League goals. This season, the attacker has already scored ten goals and provided three assists. His last goal for Bournemouth was the injury-time winner in a 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
While the current table 15. loses one of its top performers, Man City hopes to improve its chances of winning the title with Semenyo. In the Premier League, the gap between the second-placed team and leaders Arsenal FC has already increased to six points after three recent draws.
“City are in a great position,” Semenyo was quoted as saying on the club website. “They still have four competitions left. I’m really confident that I can help the team have a strong second half of the season.”
