How was the Game
City opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the first half, with Max Alleyne, after a hit in the small area. At 24, Rodri expanded with a strong shot from outside the area, into the right corner of goalkeeper Joe Whitworth. Still in the initial stage, at 42, a corner taken by Rayan Cherki ended in an own goal by Jake Doyle-Hayes, increasing the advantage to 3-0.
In first-half stoppage time, the superiority turned into a rout. Tijjani Reijnders crossed low from the right, Jack Fitzwater tried to cut it and ended up sending it against his own goal, making Manchester City’s fourth.
In the second half, the pace remained intense. After just 3 minutes, Rico Lewis completed the first time after a precise lift by Antoine Semenyo and scored the fifth. Shortly after, at 8, Semenyo himself received a pass from Rayan Cherki, invaded the area and finished under the goalkeeper’s legs, scoring the sixth of the match and his first goal with a City shirt. In the 25th minute, Tijjani Reijnders made it nine by hitting a shot placed from the edge of the area, into Whitworth’s left corner.
The rout took on even more elastic contours in the final stretch. In the 34th minute, Rico Lewis crossed with precision into the penalty area and Nico O’Reilly headed it firmly, with no chance of saving for the opposing goalkeeper, making the eighth. At 41, Ryan McAidoo was triggered by Divine Mukasa in the half-moon and hit hard with his left foot to close the score at 9-0.
Exeter City scored the goal of honor in the 44th minute of the second half. George Birch took a risk with his left foot from the edge of the area and hit James Trafford’s drawer, reducing the score to 9-1.
Then, at 45, Manchester City scored again. Jérémy Doku tried an individual play inside the area and had his shot blocked by the marker. In the remainder, Rico Lewis appeared free and finished strongly with his right foot, with no chance for the goalkeeper, closing the score at 10-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
