Malaka’s Archery Success: 16 Medals & Andalusian Record

Malaka has obtained 6 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze. It is also notable that 5 other goalkeepers from the Malaka club arrived and fell in the bronze finals, finishing in 4th place.

These 16 medals represent a success of results, placing the club second in the championship ranking.

To these medals we must add a new record for Andalusia since the young archer Cayetana Podadera broke the U15 women’s Recurve Bow record with a score of 470 points.

Regarding Malaga participation, the number of Malaka athletes from all previous editions has been exceeded with 41 registered athletes and 5 technicians. Also attending were 7 athletes from Club Arcogüi (Torrox), 3 from Club Polideportivo Mijas and an athlete from Club Arcoin integrated into the project. Malagueña Pink Arrows promoted by the Malaka Club.

In this sporting event, a total of 177 athletes and 22 technicians from 22 sports clubs from all over Andalusia gathered.

One of the most important facts has been the female participation in the competition. For the first time, a participation of 48% of female archers has been achieved, which represents real parity between men and women in archery as a competitive sport modality in Andalusia.

Also noteworthy is the increase in the participation of female breast cancer survivors who are members of the group of archers called “Pink Arrows” who compete in the Arch & Health division. This division was expressly created by the Royal Spanish Archery Federation (RFETA) so that these women who practiced archery for therapeutic purposes could also compete at the regional and national level.

The event took place over two days this weekend at the Las Fuentezuelas Municipal Pavilion in Jaén. The divisions that have competed are Recurve Bow, Compound Bow, Adapted Bow and Bow & Health. By categories, there have been 112 athletes in Recurve Bow, 46 in Compound Bow, 19 in Bow&Health plus one in Intellectual Disability.

Of the total number of archers, 74 are under 21 years of age and 34 archers have competed in the over 50 age category.

The development of the competition was exceptional thanks to the good organization of the Santa Catalina de Jaén Club and the atmosphere of camaraderie and healthy competitiveness that reigned from beginning to end.
