The second part of the Belgian Track Cycling Championships has started in Heusden-Zolder. Hélène Hesters won the titles in the elimination race and the time trial over 1 kilometer on Friday. Brother Jules could not live up to his role as favorite in the elimination. Lotte Kopecky then blasted to victory in the 4 kilometers and the team race alongside Shari Bossuyt.

The track cycling championships will be split into 2 parts this winter. In mid-November, Jules Hesters already won 3 titles in Ghent, while Lotte Kopecky won the Belgian tricolor in the omnium.

In Heusden-Zolder, Hesters could not make it a four-leaf clover on Friday. The top favorite in the elimination was already eliminated in 2nd place and therefore had to settle for 9th place.

This paved the way for the outsiders: Milan Van den Haute (professional rider at Flanders-Baloise) took home the Belgian crown. Silver and bronze went to Thibaut Bernard and Renzo Raes.

Tuur Dens, a teammate of Van den Haute, rode to gold in the kilometer with 1’02″580, ahead of Renzo Raes and Noah Vandenbranden. Lowie Nulens took gold in the sprint.

2 out of 2 for Hélène Hesters, 2 extra titles for Lotte Kopecky

Hélène Hesters, Jules’ younger sister, was at the appointment.

The 21-year-old Hesters took gold in her favorite event, the elimination, ahead of Lani Wittevrongel and Laerke Expeels.

In the time trial over one kilometer, Hesters also had a considerable margin over numbers 2 and 3: Zita Gheysens and Luca Vierstraete, with a time of 1’08’967.

A double Belgian title for Hesters, and Lotte Kopecky has also added two additional Belgian titles to her name. She was by far the best in the 4,000 meters. In the qualifications she even set a Belgian record in a time of 4’29”.

Later in the evening she won the team race alongside Shari Bossuyt. Hesters and Vierstraete came second, Wittevrongel and Declercq were third on the podium. Nicky Deluge then took control of the sprint again.
