Announced for a time as a possible reinforcement for Vladimir Petkovic’s Fennecs, the name of Carlo Boukhalfa has gradually disappeared from the radar of the Algerian selection. Speculation around a possible summons gradually faded, until it completely died out. In a recent interview, the FC Saint-Gall midfielder returned to this episode.
Aged 26, Carlo Boukhalfa was born in Germany but has Algerian origins through his grandfather, which opens up the possibility for him to represent Algeria on the international level. A scenario which was, for a time, considered by both parties.
In an interview given to Blue Sportthe player confirmed the existence of contacts with the Algerian Football Federationwithout these succeeding. However, he does not rule out anything for the future: “My grandfather is Algerian, he emigrated to Germany at the time. There were discussions last year, but then contact faded. That’s why I’m unfortunately not there. But who knows what the future holds. »
Exchanges left without follow-up
Asked about the sudden end of discussions with the FAF, Boukhalfa acknowledges never having received a precise explanation for this silence. He nevertheless evokes a very competitive sporting context: “I was not given an explanation. But there are a lot of quality players, the level within the Algerian national team is very high. »
Trained and having evolved exclusively in Germanyunder the colors of Freiburg then St. Pauli, Boukhalfa joined the FC Saint-Gall last summer for a two-season contract. To date, one arrival among Fennecs seems more compromised than ever, as competition is fierce for his position and other profiles now seem favored.
