Newcastle United achieved an important victory in the tight race for a direct round of 16 ticket in the Champions League, defeating PSV Eindhoven at home 3-0 (2-0). With a final game of the league phase against FC Bayern Munich, it will not be easy for Eindhoven to even reach the knockout phase.
Robert Lewandowski first scored in his own goal and then in the right goal in FC Barcelona’s 4-2 (2-2) win at Slavia Prague. Liverpool FC climbed to fourth place after a 3-0 (1-0) win at Olympique Marseille.
Yoane Wissa (8th), who was in the starting line-up for the first time instead of national player Nick Woltemade, Anthony Gordon (30th) and Harvey Barnes (65th) scored for Newcastle. Out of a total of eight teams with 13 points, Newcastle has the best goal difference together with defending champion Paris St. Germain (+10).
Barcelona shoots game in Prague
Atalanta Bergamo suffered a 2:3 (1:0) home defeat against Athletic Bilbao and has to worry about a direct place in the round of 16. Gianluca Scamacca (16th) and Nikola Krstovic (88th) scored for the Italians, and Bilbao turned the game around in the second half through Gorka Guruzeta (58th), Nicolas Serrano (70th) and Robert Navarro (74th). Bergamo slipped from fifth to 13th place as a result of the defeat.
Galatasaray Istanbul around former Bayern professional Leroy Sané and former national team captain Ilkay Gündogan was unable to improve its starting position in the fight for the knockout phase after a 1-1 (1-1) draw against Atlético Madrid. Galatasaray fell behind in the fourth minute thanks to a header from Giuliano Simeone, and an own goal from Madrid’s Marcos Llorente (20th) gave Galatasaray the equalizer.
