Ligue 1 more popular than ever! The French football championship saw record attendance in the stadiums with 4.21 million spectators for the first 17 days of the 2025-1926 season, the Professional Football League (LFP) welcomed on Tuesday.
This is a “new record since the move to 18 clubs (since the 2023-2024 season), an increase of 8,000 spectators compared to mid-season 2024-2025, the date of the previous record at mid-term,” underlines a press release from the League.
Five clubs, including PSG, exceed the mark of 35,000 average spectators per match
“The best attendance of this 2025-2026 mid-season for a match was recorded during the match between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Brestois at the beginning of November with 66,279 spectators,” specifies the body.
“In total, 57 matches were played behind closed doors in the first part of the season”, and “five clubs (Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais, Losc and RC Lens) exceed the mark of 35,000 spectators on average per match”, adds the LFP.
More broadly, “in five seasons, the occupancy rate in McDonald’s Ligue 1 stadiums has increased from 70.7% to 88%”.
The number of subscribers is also at its highest in Ligue 1 with 18 clubs, with 330,000 subscribers, or 18,200 subscribers per club on average.
Records which contrast with the failure of the call for tenders for TV rights last summer, which forced the League to set up its own channel, Ligue 1 +.
