Liam Rosenior: Chelsea Coaching Link?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Liam Rosenior has reportedly arrived in London, England and it is strongly rumored that he will soon be announced as Chelsea’s Inter coach.

“Chelsea is getting closer to appointing Liam Rosenior as their new head coach after the 41-year-old arrived in London on Sunday (4/1), according to sources told ESPN,” wrote ESPN.

Regarding this news, Chelsea caretaker Calum McFarlane admitted that he had not received the latest information.

“When I first took this job, I was told that I would be in charge of the Manchester City match, so that meant three days with the team. There was a possibility that a new manager would come in on Monday, that’s what I was initially told,” said McFarlane as quoted by ESPN.

Chelsea started 2026 by dismissing Enzo Maresca from the position of head coach of the club. Bad results and an uneasy relationship with the club are thought to be the cause of the quick separation.

However, Chelsea did not need long to find a replacement coach. Liam Rosenior is said to be a strong candidate to succeed Maresca.

Rosenior is an English coach who is currently winning the French club, RC Strasbourg. The 2025/2026 season will be Rosenior’s second with Strasbourg.

After retiring as a player in 2018, Rosenior was immediately appointed as assistant coach for Brighton and Hove Albion U-23.

His coaching career then continued at Derby County as caretaker replacing Wayne Rooney, and became permanent coach at Hull City.

After bringing Hull City to seventh place in the 2023/2024 Championship standings, Rosenior moved to Strasbourg. In its first season Strasbourg was brought to seventh place in the final standings.

So far, Strasbourg’s performance in the French League has been consistent, as a disruptor to the establishment of the big Ligue 1 teams.

That consistency is also what attracted Chelsea. However, it is not without other reasons that the Blues want this 41 year old coach.

Strasbourg is a Chelsea partner club which is also owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital from the BlueCo group.

Coaching Chelsea will certainly be a tough challenge for Liam Rosenior. Chelsea is the first big club that Rosenior will coach.
