Lazio, letter to Lotito: the text
This is the full text of the letter addressed to the president of Lazio, Claudio Lotito.
«President,
we are addressing you directly: our Lazio fans have had their dream taken away from us. We have not been able to dream for 22 years, since the company was owned by Claudio Lotito.
These 22 years have been years in which there has been no shortage of triumphs, but they have mainly been punctuated by many sporting disappointments. The worst thing, however, is that we have never been able to aspire to something more than a good season after a bad season, with the always unfulfilled hope of a leap in quality that never arrived.
It’s been years now, almost seven, since a trophy has been raised. It’s been years since a footballer who warms the hearts of adults and children has been registered. We Lazio fans cannot dream of trophies and champions. And we suffer corporate choices that do not respect the history of our Lazio nor the dignity of us fans, as in the case of the day of remembrance of the murder of Vincenzo Paparelli.
Not only that, as the latest news events demonstrate, instead of rewarding a wealth of affection and values – also confirmed by the 30 thousand season tickets this year, despite a disappointing season behind us and the impossibility of investing on the market, the only case in Europe – many fans are hindered in every way.
We turn to you, president Lotito, to ask you to allow us fans to dream of champions and trophies. If you cannot, as is clear to everyone, we ask you to do what many other football properties have done in recent years: pass the buck, and concentrate the proceeds of the sale, which we are sure would not be small, in other sectors.
We Lazio people want an ownership that respects us (and doesn’t even place the blame and responsibility for unfavorable refereeing on the fans) and makes us dream, and to dream in 2026, substantial investments are needed.
Please don’t answer us with your usual complex reasoning: if you are not able to bring Lazio back to compete for the Italian and European summit, recognize it and as you also stated in a recent interview, since “everything has an end” then step aside: the Lazio players would be grateful to you, giving you the right credit.
We hope for a solid response, more solid than those downsizing “realities” that he has made us deal with in these 22 years».
