Lazio Beats Fiorentina: Italian Cup Final Recap

Florence, 27 January 2026 – Fiorentina-Como it ends 3-1 for the Larians, stronger in all sectors, in the counterattack as in the maneuvering game and ball possession.

Piccoli’s goal deceives the Gigliati, but the match is dominated by Como who goes to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup, while the Viola go out immediately. All this in front of Rocco Commisso’s wife, Catherine, and his son Giuseppe, appointed president of the Viola club a few hours earlier.

Both teams are largely remodeled on this cold Italian Cup evening. The new arrivals and also the Colombian full-back Balbo play among the Viola. The match is open, Como’s superiority (great dribbling and deadly counterattack) but the Viola respond. In particular, in the 4th minute it is Balbo who has the good ball, but he shoots at Butez.

In the 7th minute the Viola went ahead with Piccoli doing well to correct Fabbian’s excellent assist into the net. Among the Viola, Fazzini was particularly enterprising. The Viola’s advantage does not last long: in the 20th minute there is a mix in the Fiorentina area, the post is headed by Douvikas, then Sergi Roberto scores.

In the second half it’s a Como monologue, the Viola waste two chances with Brescianini and Picccoli, but there’s nothing else. Beyond the goals of Nico Paz (who took advantage of an unfortunate clearance by Fortini and a clumsy intervention by Christensen) and Morata (winning counterattack) the Larian superiority is clear, continuous pressure, excellent technique, little to say.
