Marta Andjane triumphs in the European Cup stage in Winterberg
On Friday, January 16, Latvian skeleton athlete Marta Andžane won the European Cup stage at the Winterberg track in Germany, securing her ticket to the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. As reported by the TV3 channel, Andžane beat her closest follower from China, Yuxin Lian, by 0.61 seconds, while American Michelle Touken finished third. This victory is an important step in her career, confirming her steady progress in the skeleton discipline. 38 athletes participated in the competition.
Dāvis Valdovskis wins the second place
In the men’s competition, Dāvis Valdovskis won the second place in the European Cup on the Vinterberg track, confirming the strong performance of Latvian skeletonists in this competition series. Several awards at the European youth championships
The results of the European Cup held at the Vinterberg track were also included in the European Junior (U23) and U20 championships. Due to her victory, Marta Andžane also became the European junior and U20 champion in skeleton. Dārta Neimane ranked 14th in the European Cup, but won the fifth place in the European Junior Championship, and the fourth position in the U20 competition. Laura Legere finished 23rd in the European Cup, eighth in the junior championship, and tenth in the U20 championship. On the other hand, Kamila Krustiņa ranked 33rd in the European Cup, 10th in the junior championship and 13th in the U20 championship.

With Marta Andžane’s victory in the European Cup stage, Latvia’s participation in the mixed team relay at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games has been ensured, as Emil Indriksons also has an Olympic ticket. In the men’s competition in Innsbruck, Emils Indriksons and Dāvis Valdovskis ranked in the top ten, winning eighth and ninth place. This competition took place in an atmosphere of protests in connection with the participation of Russian athletes who competed as neutral athletes, causing a protest by the Latvian national team.
