In Rupolding, Germany, the men’s pursuit competition of the Biathlon World Cup ends on Sunday, and Norwegian Johannes Dahl-Sevdahl became the winner in this discipline.
Dahl-Ševdal managed to break into the leaders in the final stage of the competition – he made one mistake in the shooting range and finished in 30 minutes 23.9 seconds. Frenchman Eric Perot was second, while Swedish Martin Ponsiluoma completed the top three. Andrejs Rastorjevs finished in 35th place, while Renārs Birkentāls – in 48th place.

Birkenthal started with number 18, 75 seconds behind Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson. Another 20 minutes later, Rastorgujev started the race with number 32.
In the first shootout, Birkenthal made one mistake, while Rastorgujev was accurate, and Andrejs returned to the track ahead of Renard.

At the second shooting range, however, Birkenthal arrived before Rastorgujev. In the second shooting range, both of them made a mistake, and after the firing line, Renārs was ranked 31st, while Andrejs was ranked 34th.

By the third firing line, Rastorgujev was already six positions ahead of Birkenthal. Andrejs shot accurately and returned to the track in 27th position, meanwhile Birkenthal made two mistakes and slipped to 49th position.

Rastoguyev made one mistake in the final shootout and returned to the 32nd position on the track. However, he finished in 35th place, one minute and 21.1 seconds behind the winner.

On the other hand, Birkenthal again made one mistake and slipped to the 51st position. He finished in 48th place, two minutes and 25.1 seconds behind the leader.

After the competition, biathlon national team coach Kārlis Vanags expressed his joy for what was achieved in the Rupolding stage, stressing that the shooting was disappointing.

Already on Monday, Latvian biathletes will go to Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic to participate in the next stage of the World Cup. Rastogujev, however, will not participate in this stage, as he will go to a training camp in the highlands to prepare for the Olympic Games.
