It is a court decision which could do the greatest good for French football and its clubs, in the midst of a period of uncertainty and recession. The Paris Economic Activities Court ruled in favor, on Tuesday January 27, of the Professional Football League (LFP) and its commercial subsidiary, LFP Media, in the dispute which had pitted them for several months against BeIN Sports, one of the two broadcasters of Ligue 1, the French football championship.
The Qatari channel took LFP Media to court on August 14, 2025, to challenge the selection criteria imposed on it for the choice of the Saturday afternoon match – the only one it broadcasts during each day of the championship, the other eight being broadcast by Ligue 1+.
To demonstrate its dissatisfaction, BeIN Sports had only paid the League, during the first three payment deadlines of the season (August 6, October 6 and December 5), only 4.7 million euros out of the 6.2 million planned. In total, 14.1 million euros have not been paid since the start of the 2025-2026 financial year.
