KV Mechelen Mourns: Football Tragedy

Like the other first division teams, KV Mechelen will prepare for part two of the 2025/26 season. But just after New Year’s Eve, the Maneblussers now receive very bad news.

For example, the club announces the death of Pascal Verhaegen, who was KVM’s bus driver for many years, on Facebook.

Verhaeghen worked for the first team, but was also active for the women’s team and various youth teams of KVM. He died “after a short but severe illness”.

Frank Lagast expresses his condolences

Frank Lagast, CEO of KVM, expresses his condolences. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, loved ones and friends. After almost 10 years as a driver, Pascal was a close part of our family.”

“We almost started ‘our ride’ together…” adds coach Fred Vanderbiest. “We will remember Pascal as our ‘father’ who took care of the bus and cars for players and staff.”

“Old school driver who didn’t need GPS or Waze. What did? Simple, a box with some Haribo sweets was enough to get everyone to their destination safely.”
