Four days after Michael Carrick took office, Manchester United showed an exhilarating celebration against Manchester City this Saturday and deservedly swept the Skyblues out of the stadium 2-0. The result strengthens Carrick’s back, as he gathers arguments early on to be able to work as a coach at Old Trafford in the long term.
Carrick is currently only employed until the summer. Then an external trainer should actually be hired, Oliver Glasner is considered the top candidate. According to the ‘Teamtalk’ portal, a Bundesliga coach is also being discussed as a potential successor. ManUnited are said to have put Niko Kovac on the shortlist. The 54-year-old will be closely monitored in the coming months.
There is no contact yet, this should not be made until late spring at the earliest. Chelsea FC also recently had Kovac on their list, but the Croatian didn’t want to leave BVB in the winter. A new situation could arise in the summer. Kovac is under contract with the Black and Yellows until 2027.
