The Knicks have just experienced a complicated back-to-back against the Hawks and the Sixers which ended in two defeats. Two losses occurred during meetings where New York was poor in attack, a sector in which Mike Brown’s men are nevertheless good this season since they have the fourth best attack in the League with 120.7 points scored per 100 possessions.
During the loss against Atlanta, the Knicks had foiled with only 27% 3-point success, and Jalen Brunson then noticed that this had prevented his team from getting into rhythm. This Saturday, after the defeat against Philadelphia, Mikal Bridges noted that the attack was slower than usual.
“I think we’re not playing fast enough and that’s everyone’s fault,” souligne Mikal Bridges. “We need to spread the game better. We know what we need to do, but I feel like we’re either not thinking about it or we’re taking too long to think about it.” This is our problem. »
Soaring fundamentals
For his part, Mike Brown noted that he no longer saw the principles of play instilled at the start of the season.
“Our pace is not good, we bring the ball up by walking almost every time,” regrets the Knicks coach. “For two games, we haven’t seen much of our fundamentals, namely spreading the play, making quick decisions, putting the ball in the racket and turning the game around. If we have nothing in attack, it’s as if we were at a standstill. We don’t know what’s going to happen and we can’t put a sequence of actions together. »
The Knicks are now on a three-game losing streak and Mike Brown regrets the absence of Josh Hartinjured his ankle during the Christmas match against the Cavaliers and who will have to miss another week of competition. The winger has missed his team’s last five outings and New York has only won two games, including a success against the Pelicans, the red lantern of the West, in this period of time.
Stay united even in adversity
Even though his team is going through a difficult period, Mike Brown is looking to find the positives and believes this is a good time to determine what his team is made of.
“We’re in a situation we’re not used to being in where there’s a lot of adversity,” he analyzes. “I have never known a team that had not had difficulties during a season, whether it was a champion team, a finalist or a just decent team. Everyone goes through it. Now the question is how we will respond. This is an opportunity for us to see what we are made of. »
Precisely, the Knicks will have a great opportunity to test themselves since the next ten days promise to be complicated with a trip to Detroit this Monday and a “road trip” to the West in the middle of January where they will cross paths with the Suns and the Warriors.
“We must stay united, not point the finger at anyone, not make excuses, but rather quickly find a solution,” insists Jalen Brunson. “We have to be able to count on each other, that’s the most important thing. »
