This victory must have been sweet for Dennis Schröder, even if the German basketball star was only a spectator when his Sacramento Kings duel with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Two days after the national team captain was suspended for an alleged confrontation with Luka Doncic, the outsider won in the NBA against the Slovenian’s team 124:112.
The North American professional league suspended Schröder for three games last Saturday; according to media reports, the point guard tried to attack Doncic on December 28th “about 40 minutes” after the Kings’ 101:125 loss to the Lakers.
NBA: Doncic stands out – but Lakers lose
At the reunion, Doncic shone as the game’s top scorer with 42 points, but the Lakers lost out to the Kings around the well-playing DeMar DeRozan (32 points).
For Sacramento it was the first home win against Schröder’s former team in almost two years, LA suffered its third defeat in a row. Maximilian Kleber failed to score a basket for the guests in two minutes of action.
Lakers superstar LeBron James wore a special patch on his jersey in the California duel to honor his 23rd NBA season – no other player has been in the league longer. The 41-year-old scored 22 points for his team, which only converted eight of 36 three-point attempts. “We just didn’t hit anything,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said.
“Be back on court soon #3,” Schröder posted in his Instagram story in response to the suspension. He commented on a post by NBA insider Shams Charania with “attempting (trying, editor)”, an eye and smile emoji.
