Holstein Kiel has formalized the reinforcement of Umut Tohumcu for the second half of the season. The 21-year-old midfielder joins the northern club on loan from TSG Hoffenheim. Courted by several clubs, including Galatasaray, Tohumcu chose to stay in Germany in order to continue his progress. He arrives in Kiel with solid experience at the highest level, with forty-six appearances in the Bundesliga.
Sports director Olaf Rebbe detailed the reasons for this recruitment.
“Umut is a versatile midfielder who combines intensity and attacking danger. It fits perfectly with our sporting philosophy. We are very happy to have convinced Umut and the TSG management of our project and that he wants to take the next step in his career here. »
Tohumcu’s new coach is not unknown. Marcel Rapp already managed him during his time at Hoffenheim, which weighed in the balance.
“I obviously know Umut from my time at Hoffenheim. What characterizes him is his dynamics, his playing intelligence and his great tactical discipline. »
Having been with Hoffenheim since 2017, also with appearances in the DFB Pokal and the Europa League, Umut Tohumcu arrives in Kiel with clear objectives.
“Holstein Kiel is an ambitious club with a very clear sporting line. I am extremely delighted with this important step for my career. My goal is to quickly get to know the team and make my contribution to a successful second half of the season. »
Kiel will resume the competition in mid-January with a reception of SC Paderborn 07, before continuing against Arminia Bielefeld and Greuther Fürth. The month of February will be marked by a highly anticipated meeting, the DFB Pokal quarter-final against VfB Stuttgart, an opponent that Tohumcu knows particularly well.
