Traditionally, intense battles took place between two Pieriga teams. For the “Ķekava/RB&B” team, however, this season has not turned out to be nearly as successful as the last one, currently in sixth position with 22 points in 20 games. The team has lost the last three games and managed to win only once out of the last seven matches. Meanwhile, the current champions from Ulbroka, after losing at home in the leader’s battle against “Rubeni”, which forced them to retreat to the second position, in the last two games with 16:0 and 19;3 destroyed the teams of Irlava and Bauska – units that are currently outside the play-off zone. In both mutual games this season, the teams played quite similar battles, in which “Masters Ulbroka/LU” won both – 7:6 in extra time at home and 6:4 away.
The third game also started much more successfully for the last year’s constant champions from Ulbrok, who were led by Niks Blumfelds in the fifth minute, and Valters Lapiņš doubled the lead in the tenth minute. In the continuation of the match, Ričards Orste scored one goal for the hosts, but in the remaining part of the period, the teams exchanged goals, with Krišjānis Tiltiņas standing out first, while Reinis Melgailis scored most of the goals for the hosts.
In the second period, the Ķekava team failed to use their opportunities in the numerical majority to turn it into another goal. However, five minutes before the end of the period, Patriks Zvejnieks was effective in equal formations, achieving a 3:3 balance.
In the decisive period, Zvejnieks was one of the main heroes, who scored another goal in the 47th minute, making it 4:3. In the continuation of the match, Toms Gredzens realized the numerical majority with an accurate shot from the left side, but a few minutes later, Zvejnieks completed his hat-trick. The guests decided to change the goalkeeper for the sixth player, as the teams were also sent off at the end of the match. Only 19 seconds before the end of regular time, Tiltiņš was able to score another goal, which turned out to be not enough to fight for success in this game. “Ķekava/RB&B” won 6:4, which did not significantly affect their position in the table. Meanwhile, Ulbrock’s team has significantly complicated their hopes for first place at the end of the regular season.
