Kees Smit is increasingly keeping the minds of Europe’s top clubs busy. Now in England it is suddenly about the midfielder and Liverpool. What do those two names have to do with each other?
In England it is suddenly about Kees Smit and Liverpool
The name Kees Smit has been associated with various top clubs since last summer. FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, almost the entire Premier League: according to various European football media, the young Dutchman has his future completely up to him.
The Spanish AS came with news that was picked up in England. “Real Madrid wants to stay far away from making expensive top signings from established names. Vitinha from Paris Saint-Germain and Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool are too expensive and no longer part of the philosophy of The Royal.”
“The days of buying a fully developed player are a thing of the past. Real Madrid did that years ago and it always went wrong. With an exception like Kylian Mbappé,” wrote AS. “Names like Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler, Dean Huijsen and Álvaro Carreras show that buying talent is the new way. Kees Smit belongs to that category.”
And so British media jump on the news. “Good developments for Liverpool and Arne Slot. They now know that Mac Allister remains out of the picture. The chance that the Argentinian will leave is becoming increasingly smaller due to the news about Smit.”
‘Bad news for Manchester United’
While it is good news for Liverpool, other English top clubs are disappointed after reading these reports. Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey previously reported that Manchester United were interested in the Dutch talent.
“Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested. Sources have told us that AZ will ask more than 60 million euros for Smit. In the Netherlands they are even thinking of 75 million,” said Bailey. “However, there is an increasing chance that his future lies in Spain.”
