PRAGUE – Today, the prosecutor released on bail the wrestler Karlos Vémola, who is accused of organized drug crime.

His lawyer Vlastimil Rampula told ČTK. The court sent Vémola into custody after his arrest at the end of last year. Three people face charges in the case, they face up to 18 years in prison.

“This is a significant shift in the framework of the defense. It continues to apply that the resolution, on the basis of which the criminal prosecution of Karlos Vémola was initiated, is unexamined and it is not clear from it what evidence is supposed to testify to his criminal activity.” said Rampula. Vémola also repeatedly denied guilt.

According to the defense attorney, it is still true that the detention of Vémol was completely inadequate in its timing and manner. “Even the subsequent house search, carried out by a team of police officers, did not find any evidence of Karlos Vémola’s involvement in criminal activity,” he added.

He was detained the day before Christmas

The police arrested Vémola and two other people last Tuesday, December 23, and at the same time conducted a house search in his house in Měchenice in the Prague-Západ district. The court confirmed the prosecutor’s proposal for remand two days later. Rampula filed a complaint against his client’s detention on the spot. In January, the police charged two more people in the case.

MMA mixed martial arts fighter Vémola is the first Czech to break into the elite Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The former bodybuilder and wrestler, who turned 40 last year, holds several titles in the middle and light heavyweight categories, both in Czech and English organizations.
