Kalenda’s Altenberg Race: 15th Place Finish

Ammur beat World Cup overall leader Johannes Lohner by 0.02 seconds, while Francesco Friedrich lost 0.15 seconds and finished third.

Kalenda’s foursome was in 16th place after the first race, but the 14th best result achieved in the second race in the sum of both races allowed them to move up to 15th place. The Latvian crew lost to the winner by 2.71 seconds.

After seven rounds, the first three positions in the overall standings of the World Cup were taken by German pilots. Lohner, who won three stages, was first with 1515 points, Friedrich was second with 1446 points, and Ammurs rounded off the top three with 1436 points.

Kalenda ranked 13th with 784 points, while Renārs Grantiņš took 22nd place in the overall World Cup standings with 486 points. Latvian pilots were in second and fifth place respectively in the junior competition.

Grantiņš’s crew is competing in the European Cup this week to continue accumulating points in the Olympic qualification and prepare for the world junior championship.

Grantiņš with pushers Nilas Meijers, Matīs Gulbi and Andris Skadiņas took 10th place in the 22-team competition on Sunday.

The victory was won by the German crew with pilot Hans Peters Hanighofer, the second place went to Mattias Variola from Italy, and the bronze went to Laurin Cern from Germany.

On Saturday, Kalenda and pusher Ungur took 13th place in the doubles competition.

Seven stages of the World Cup are planned this season as athletes fight for tickets to the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
