Nicky Hayen has completed his first weeks at KRC Genk and is gradually starting to get a clear picture of his group of players. The Limburgers are only ninth for the time being, but the coach sees more potential than the ranking suggests. Ambition is certainly not lacking in the Cegeka Arena.
According to Hayen, a place in the top three is still feasible. “That is possible, but everything has to go well. A lot can still happen in football and the Play-Offs, so that is why I still believe in it,” DAZN said. The coach realizes that it will not be an easy task, but he refuses to throw in the towel.
Within the core, the young talents in particular stand out. One name keeps coming back: Konstantinos Karetsas. The young Greek is considered the absolute crown jewel of Racing Genk and also makes a deep impression on Hayen.
When asked if Karetsas is also the biggest talent in the JPL, Hayen was clear. “Yes, what I saw from ‘Kos’ in the last few weeks is phenomenal. If he can link his brilliant insights to the good basics and statistics, then it is madness,” said Hayen. At Genk they are all too aware of his value and are aiming for a record transfer.
The intention is clear: Karetsas must become the most expensive outgoing transfer in club history. Genk hopes to receive an amount between thirty and forty million euros next summer. Clubs such as Chelsea are mentioned, although that option is not very concrete for the time being.
In episode 23 of the second season of Tijd voor Voetbal, the penalty phase in KRC Genk – Club Brugge, the difficult match of RSC Anderlecht is discussed and STVV continues to convince in the JPL. That and much more in Time for Football.
