Jockey Dies in Horse Racing Accident | Tragic Fall

32-year-old jockey Elvin Abrea lost his life in a tragic accident at a horse race in the Philippines. Abrea died after falling off the horse he was riding and being hit by another horse during the race.

According to the information received, the unfortunate accident occurred on Saturday, January 17, at the Hapi Jockey Club track in Padre Garcia. Elvin Abrea competed with the horse Fly With The Wind in the race held on the country’s only horse racing track. A total of seven jockeys took part in the race.

An unfortunate moment occurred when Abrea, who was advancing in the group, was trying to turn to the right lane at approximately the 1000-meter part of the race. It was reported that Fly With The Wind came into contact with the hind legs of the horse Magnolia Ariana, who was running in front of her and was ridden by jockey JL Paano.

Fly With The Wind lost his balance after the contact and fell to the ground, while Elvin Abrea was thrown hard onto the track floor. Another horse coming after him passed over Abrea, who remained on the ground because he did not have enough distance to stop.

In the first investigations after the terrible accident, it was confirmed by the authorities that Elvin Abrea died at the scene.

In the report prepared by the race officials, it was stated that Fly With The Wind hit the feet of the horse in front of him, causing the accident. Magnolia Ariana’s jockey, JL Paano, said that he did not feel any contact and his horse moved in a straight line throughout the race.

The Philippine Jockey Club published a written statement about the painful incident. In the statement, it was stated that they were deeply saddened by the death of Elvin Abrea and expressed their condolences to his family, relatives and the racing community. It was emphasized that Abrea will be remembered for his courage, passion and dedication to his profession.

This tragic incident once again brought into question the adequacy of the security measures taken in horse racing.
