JLSS Athletes Dominate: 11 Medals at Latvian Short Track Championship

JLSS short track athletes won 11 medals in the Latvian championship

The Latvian championship in short track was held, in which the students of Jelgava Ice Sports School (JLSS) won 11 medals – five gold, four silver and two bronze.

Athletes from the age of 12 compete in the Latvian championship. JLSS was represented by 13 short track athletes. “Overall, the starts were very successful, a lot of work was invested in the preparation process. It was our athletes who became Latvian champions in five out of eight groups. The youngest athletes competed in the “Christmas Award” competition, where they won six out of nine groups. We have now developed a good competitive level in all age groups,” sums up JLSS coach Endijs Vīgants.

Athletes in all age groups completed three distances of different lengths. By summing up the results, the final distribution of seats was determined. Māris Jānis Šternmanis won the 1st place in the Latvian championship for seniors. In the Junior A group, 1st place went to Linards Reinis Laizāns, 2nd place to Rūdolfs Šternmanis and Madara Gunteri. Junior C was won by Nora Sloka. In the junior D group for both boys and girls, the entire podium with JLSS students: 1st place for Harald Ing Laizān and Samanta Kursīte, 2nd place for Ralf Stopiņš and Beatrice Danovska, 3rd place for Mihail Novikov and Adria Lillaja.

Athletes up to the age of 13 competed in the “Christmas Prize” competition, including beginners who skated with hockey skates. Armands Danovskis won the novice group. Junior G was won by Una Brice and Pio Vingris. Rodrigo Jānis Letinskis won the 2nd place in the junior group F. Elza Gudlevska won the junior E group, Evert Eglītis took 2nd place, Āron Ķempelis took 3rd place. In the Junior D group, both boys and girls compete here, the entire podium with JLSS students: 1st place for Haralds Ingum Laizāns and Samanta Kursīte, 2nd place for Ralf Stopiņš and Beatrice Danovska, 3rd place for Mihail Novikova and Adria Lillaja.
