Jakob Voelkerling Persson: HIF Return Confirmed

Helsingborgs IF and Jakob Voelkerling Persson agree on a two-year contract. The 25-year-old thus returns to HIF after 3.5 years.

Jakob Voelkerling Persson came to HIF from his hometown Trelleborg and received parts of his football education in the association’s five-star academy. He made his first A-team appearance as a central midfielder in the training match away to Östers IF on March 9, 2018.

Jakob made his competitive debut as an 18-year-old in a cup match against Oskarshamn’s AIK. Altogether, the Trelleborger was noted for 37 matches and one goal before he left in the summer of 2022 for Allsvenskan IK Sirius, where during the last season he played 16 Allsvenskan matches, scoring one goal and one assist. Now the 25-year-old returns to red and blue.

– Coming back to HIF is something I’ve wanted for a while, so it feels great. It is an exciting challenge and it will be fun to grow with the task and be a leader in the squad. I have received many messages from people who wanted me to come back, which was very much appreciated, so I am looking forward to running out at the Olympia again, says the returnee.

– Jakob is a player who in recent seasons has shown that he is Allsvenskan class and it was important for us to bring in players who have experience at the highest level in Sweden. We have a clear profile in what we are looking for in each position and my assessment is that Jakob fits well into it. He also demonstrates all the pieces we look for in terms of how we want a leader to be in the dressing room. We had good dialogue both before and after Christmas about what we expect from him and I think everyone is happy that we finally got the deal done, says HIF’s manager Stevie Grieve.

We warmly welcome Jakob home to HIF!
