Ivan Leko has made it his special in his last two clubs: asking for reinforcements during each transfer window. This time, however, he is aware of the qualities of his core.
Club Brugge arrives on a bad run in Astana this week. The Blauw & Zwart were eliminated by Charleroi in the Cup, then beaten at home by the RAAL. Suffice to say that Ivan Leko is under pressure: Bruges must win to have a chance of continuing in the Champions League.
“We did everything possible so that despite the conditions, this trip went as well as possible,” declared the Croatian coach in comments relayed by the Nieuwsblad. The Club had to take a flight of around 6 hours to Kazakhstan.
Does Bruges need reinforcements?
“It’s far away, and it’s cold. But the players need to feel the impact of the conditions as little as possible, and I’m happy with the way things went,” Ivan Leko puts things into perspective.
It remains to be seen what will happen with the transfer window, which ends in a dozen days. “I am not concerned about possible reinforcements,” firmly asserts Leko, who had stood out to Ghent and to the Standard by his repeated requests to his management.
“There is enough quality in this group to get a good result against any team and the players have proven that quite often. I have confidence in my Board of Directors, who are looking at how the team can be made as strong as possible,” concludes the FC Brugge coach.
