FOLLOWING five top badminton players in the world who are absent from the Indonesia Masters 2026. One of them withdrew at the last second!
Indonesia Masters 2026 will be held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on 20-25 December. Unfortunately, the Super 500 level tournament will not be attended by top players.
According to BWF rules, top level players are not required to take part in all events in the Super 300 to 500. So, who are the five top badminton players in the world who are absent?
5 Top Badminton Players in the World Who Will Be Absent at the 2026 Indonesia Masters
1. Jonathan Christie

The host men’s singles badminton player chose to withdraw at the last second. Jonathan announced the decision via his social media just one day before the 2026 Indonesia Masters tournament!
This 28 year old player said he was withdrawing due to fitness. He has appeared in two tournaments in early 2026, namely the Malaysia Open and India Open. Jojo’s resignation makes Anthony Sinisuka Ginting move up from the reserve list!
2. An Se-young

This badminton player from South Korea was confirmed long ago to be absent from the 2026 Indonesia Masters. An previously played at the Malaysia Open and India Open 2026 which were at a higher level.
Interestingly, this 23 year old woman succeeded in becoming champion in both tournaments. An may choose to rest before appearing at the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships in early February.
3. Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae

Similar to An, the South Korean men’s doubles team also decided to withdraw from the 2026 Indonesia Masters. In fact, Kim/Seo are the current number 1 pair in the world.
The pair also chose to lose walkover (WO) in the first round of the India Open 2026 Super 750 last week. It could be that Kim/Seo is also saving energy for other tournaments.
